At 37, Penelope Cruz is hardly fighting to keep the wrinkles at bay. Yet the actress believes she has found the key to ageing gracefully: being European.

Cruz said she did not share the Hollywood obsession with eternal youth because she is Spanish. While her fellow actresses turn to Botox doctors and plastic surgeons, Cruz is content to let nature take its course.

“Birthdays are always something to celebrate. I’m looking forward to every step of the way,” she said during an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.

“Maybe it’s because I’m from Spain, so I look at it in a different way than in a place like Los Angeles. I will always be a Spanish actress in Hollywood or wherever I work.

Since welcoming a son in January, Penélope Cruz has wasted no time getting back her svelte pre-baby figure.

But it isn’t daily sessions at the gym that’s doing the trick — it’s actually dancing.

“I love ballet and it’s a little boring for me to go to the gym because I’m used to the dancing discipline — it’s really hard but much more fun,” the actress, who showed off her dancing skills in Nine, tells the Daily Mirror.

The Spanish actress took up ballet when she was a child and fell in love with the graceful movements. Although she had to quit when she decided to pursue a career in acting, she showed off her skills for musical movie Nine. Penélope is a huge fan of dark thriller Black Swan, which saw Natalie Portman win an Oscar for her portrayal of a tortured ballet star, because it took her back to her dancing youth.

“It touched me. I saw a lot of things in that movie that resonated with my own experiences,” Penélope said about Black Swan in an interview with GQ. “The discipline that ballet requires is obsessive. And only the ones who dedicate their whole lives are able to make it. Your toenails fall off and you peel them away and then you’re asked to dance again and keep smiling. I wanted to become a professional ballet dancer. And then I had to choose.”

Penélope’s parents encouraged her to take dance classes because she had so much energy. They decided ballet would be a good outlet for Penélope as it is so physically demanding.

On April 1, 2011 Penélope Cruz was honored on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. She called the unveiling of her pink granite star “a very special day that I will always remember.”

“Every time I look at that star, I will see the names of all the people that have helped me make many of my dreams a reality,” she said at the unveiling attended by a large crowd, including her husband Javier Bardem and friend, Johnny Depp.

Cruz, 36, thanked her parents, siblings, Bardem and their newborn son, “for making me happy every day.”

The new mom accessorized her awards show ensemble with yellow oval and pear shaped chandelier earrings and a pink sapphire ring, both by Chopard.

Penélope Cruz’s sister Monica has been announced as the actress’s body double for Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

According to The Sun, the siblings will change places for some of the film’s stunts in order to hide Penélope’s growing baby bump.

She confirmed that she is expecting her first child with long-time partner Javier Bardem last month.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will hit US theatres on May 20, 2011.

The actor finally spoke about his wife’s baby-to-be during a Sunday press conference in Rome for Eat Pray Love.

“Yes, it’s true,” Bardem, 41, told reporters, according to Access Hollywood. “I am very happy.”

After Cruz was snapped sporting a baby bump, a rep for the Spanish stars confirmed Cruz’s long-rumored pregnancy last week — Cruz is 4 and 1/2 months along. But neither Cruz, 36, nor Bardem have spoken publicly about the good news.

Bardem wouldn’t reveal whether their baby-to-be will be a boy or girl. And what about fatherly words of wisdom? “It is a little too soon for me to be giving advice,” he quipped. “I don’t know yet, But I will found out soon.”

Penélope and Javier, 41, married in the Bahamas back in July when she was two months pregnant. The duo has known each other for many years, they starred in 1992′s Jamón, jamón together in addition to Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2008.
