"I always consider Madrid my main home. It is important for me to make movies in my own language, and Madrid is my base. That is the privilege I have - going back and forth. In L.A. there is too much focus on things that aren't so relevant. The obsession about movies, about the business..."
When Penélope Cruz signed on to play Angelica in Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides she was excited—and for several very good reasons.
In the movie Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds himself on an unexpected journey to the fabled Fountain of Youth when a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz) forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane).
First of all, it was her first role in a high-budget action movie. “I love working in Europe and most of the times when I’m working in America, I tend to choose smaller projects with less action, because that’s where I find the most interesting characters,” Cruz says, “but I have to say that here I found both. I found a very interesting character in a movie that is really big and it gave me the opportunity to see how those movies are made. And I love the pirate world because it’s so attractive and so interesting.”
The fourth film in the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides, doesn’t open until May 20, but these four brand new clips, featuring stars Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz and others, should tide fans over.
Today some official wallpapers and new international banner for Walt Disney Pictures’ upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has turned up online, courtesy of IMP Awards. The new design combines the previously-released character posters into one, enormous image.
The film, which opens in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 20, features the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbosa. New to the franchise are stars Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Kevin R. McNally, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, and Sam Claflin.
For the past few weeks a lot of promotion for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has been gearing up. Such as the new full length trailer and posters. Check out the posters in the gallery and watch the trailer after the jump.
The fourth film in the Walt Disney Pictures/Jerry Bruckheimer Films franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides puts Jack on a quest with Angelica (Cruz) to find the Fountain of Youth. On his path, he crosses zombies, seductive mermaids and the fearsome Blackbeard (McShane). Pirates sails into 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 20.
Fans of Captain Jack Sparrow can catch a glimpse of the rugged swashbuckler all cleaned up and moonlighting as actor Johnny Depp at the world premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, happening May 7 at Disneyland.
Depp, along with co-stars Penelope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush and Ian McShane are expected to attend the “black carpet” event, a dinner soiree anchored by an outdoor 3D screening of the film. Watch out for flying swords!
Tickets for the premiere are a wild $1,000, though all proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Those who can’t shell out that type of cash can still try to see the celebrities by purchasing a ticket to the park and lining up ridiculously early.
From Disney blog Inside the Magic:
Admission to Disneyland on May 7 allows guests to stand on the sidewalks of Main Street USA. Disneyland gates will open at 6:30 am that day, at which time guests will be able to line up at the red carpet (black carpet!) to wait for the events to begin. No saving spaces will be allowed. The Mickey & Friends Parking Structure will open at 5:30 am on May 7th for Guests to park. Guests will not be encouraged to line up at the Disneyland Main Gate prior to 5:30 am.
The line-up for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival has been announced.
Out of competition Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will see it’s world premiere. The festival runs from 11th to 22nd May, with Robert De Niro head of this year’s Jury. Bong Joon-ho, director of Mother and The Host, will led the Caméra d’Or panel to decide the best debut feature.
Walt Disney Pictures has provided ComingSoon.net with an extended version of the Super Bowl spot for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 20, the comedy adventure stars Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Kevin R. McNally, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Sam Claflin and Geoffrey Rush.
The Superbowl is known just as much for its commercials as it is for the game, and fans of the massively popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will get a special treat this Sunday. The official trailer for the much-awaited fourth installment of the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will premiere during the Superbowl XLV broadcast.
On Stranger Tides sees Johnny Depp reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, and features Penelope Cruz in a supporting role. Cruz, who won an Oscar for her work in Vicky Christina Barcelona, provides much-needed female star power to the film, which is thought to suffer from the departure of Keira Knightley.
A ten second sneak peak of the trailer has been released online and has already created quite the buzz. No doubt Walt Disney Studios want to capitalize on the massive Superbowl audience to develop interest in the film.
On Stranger Tides, which also co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Ian McShane, releases this summer.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has officially wrapped production, confirmed today by Jerry Bruckheimer Films Twitter. They also announced the trailer will premiere December 17, 2010 and a few days back the first teaser poster was released.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise –this time in Disney Digital 3D. In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penélope Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed today that the teaser trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is scheduled to hit theaters with TRON: Legacy on December 17.
With both films being released in 3D and IMAX 3D, ComingSoon.net assumes the teaser will be shown in the format for those specific theaters and in 2D in conventional theaters.
As with most movie trailers these days, we expect that the “On Stranger Tides” teaser will be available online earlier that week and may debut on various TV entertainment programs as well.
Directed by Rob Marshall and hitting theaters on May 20, “On Stranger Tides” stars Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Kevin McNally, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Sam Claflin, Stephen Graham, Yuki Matsuzaki and Gemma Ward.
Earlier this week we got our first look at new co-stars Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz filming their first scenes together on the Hawiian set of the upcoming sequel film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Today we get to see the pair on set again but this time they are rehearsing a scene out of costume aboard their pirate ship. Judging by these photos, it looks like Johnny and Penélope will have no trouble finding the right romantic chemistry to work together on this film:
Penélope Cruz has been getting used to life on the ocean waves by rehearsing with her Pirates Of The Caribbean co-star Johnny Depp onboard ship. Depp, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow, could be seen teaching Penélope some rather steamy dance moves too as she got her sealegs. Penélope, 36, makes her debut in the movie franchise in the fourth instalment: On Stranger Tides, which has just started filming in Hawaii. The Spanish sexbomb – who in real life, married long-term love and fellow actor Javier Bardem earlier this month – plays Angelica, Jack Sparrow’s love interest. She could be seen smooching on the vessel with Depp, who was brandishing a goblet and a bottle of what was presumably rum. At some points, the pair seemed as if they might be about to kiss as they gazed lovingly into each other’s eyes. Depp – in character as Captain Jack, though not in costume – could also be seen raising a toast to his dark beauty. With Depp leading what may well have been a tango, he twirled his partner around the deck, sending Cruz’s long locks flying. But then it seemed as if things got nasty between the pair, with Depp grabbing Cruz in a headlock – while still holding onto his all important bottle of rum. However, they were all smiles with each other once the rehearsal had finished and out of their salty seadog characters.
