Variety reports that Nine is being pushed back to December 18th. A bad move in my opinion, but at least it’s not that big of a wait.

The Weinstein Co. has shifted the release date of the Rob Marshall musical Nine. Tuner, which was set to go out Nov. 25, will now see a limited bow Dec. 18 in Gotham and Los Angeles before TWC opens it wide on Dec. 25.

The move takes Nine out of direct competition with The Road, the Weinstein Co.’s post-apocalyptic road pic skedded for Nov. 25.

Shift reps yet another release change made because of The Road, whose release was moved several times before TWC finally settled on the Nov. 25 date.

The Weinstein Co. said Nine‘s date change was not made due to production delays.

Nine will now open against James Cameron’s Avatar, serving as counterprogramming for L.A. and New York specialty auds. The Christmas expansion pits it against Sherlock Holmes, with Robert Downey Jr., and Meryl Streep-Steve Martin-Alec Baldwin romantic comedy It’s Complicated.

Based on Federico Fellini’s , Nine stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz and follows a director confronting a midlife crisis while juggling the various women in his life.

Today the cover for the much anticipated November issue of Vogue has been released! It featured the ladies of Nine; Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson and Cruz photographed exclusively by Annie Leibovitz.

What do you think? I’m honestly not loving the cover and a bit let down, although I think Penélope by far looks the best! I’m still really excited to see what’s on the inside though! Stay tuned for scans.

Even the biggest stars aren’t immune to getting hit by stomach bugs it seems. Penelope Cruz had to miss out on promoting her upcoming musical Nine in Cannes Monday, sidelined by “some sort of food poisoning.”

In France to premiere her movie Broken Embraces, which is directed by Pedro Almodóvar, she was slated to join movie mogul Harvey Weinstein in presenting a trailer and a teaser for Nine, but fell ill.

Weinstein passed on the bad news to a select group of journalists: “Tomorrow night is her premiere for her movie. She is getting better and is seeing a doctor right now.”

Marion Cotillard was on hand at Cannes to present Nine. The trailer is already out in the U.S., and the movie will be released in theaters in November.

We want to wish Miss Cruz a speedy recovery!

The Oscar winner with arguably the most impressive list of upcoming projects has to be Best Supporting Actress winner Penelope Cruz. Cruz has two projects that also seem to have Oscar written all over them.

The first will be the newest film from Pedro Almodovar, the highly anticipated Broken Embraces. The last time Pedro and Penelope got together, they made the incredible Volver, which netted Cruz a nomination and worldwide acclaim. Very little is known about the plot of Embraces but it will reportedly open soon in Europe. American audiences will have to wait until November 6th, 2009.

Just a few weeks after Broken Embraces opens stateside, Penelope Cruz will be seen again in Nine, the highly anticipated musical from Chicago director Rob Marshall. With nineteen Oscar nominations and nine wins with only two movies (his sophomore film was Memoirs of a Geisha), anything Rob Marshall has in production has to be taken very seriously and this one has Oscar potential written all over it.

Nine co-stars an amazing six Oscar winners. Daniel Day-Lewis plays the lead with Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, and Penelope Cruz in supporting roles. Kate Hudson and Fergie also play supporting parts in the adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical of the same name based on Federico Fellini’s autobiographical 8 1/2.

Penelope Cruz says singing in her new movie Nine was “scary”.

The Spanish actress – who plays a mistress in the upcoming film – found the whole experience exciting – but she is not sure she would do a musical again because she gets so nervous when she has to sing.

She explains, “It was very interesting. Very intense, a very different experience.

“It’s the first time I’ve had to sing in a movie, so that was very scary. It was one of the most daunting things I’ve ever had to do, but it was so much fun at the same time. I loved it.”

Nine - which also stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson and Judi Dench – hits theaters in November this year.

Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman’s new film Nine is going sweep the board during the 2010 awards season, according to movie producer Harvey Weinstein.

The film – based on the Broadway musical about film director Guido Contini and the many women in his life – has only just finished shooting, but with an all-star cast including Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Kate Hudson and Black Eyed Pea Fergie it is set to dazzle.

Harvey, who watched the latest film gongs being handed out at the 2009 Baftas in London, was asked if Nine would be out for awards season next year. He said: “Oh yeah, most definitely. You’ll see a lot of nominations. You’ll see a lot of dancing too. Really, this is a great musical, a lot of great musical numbers.

Miss Cruz was in Rome a few days ago filming scenes for Nine. She looked cute having fun on set with Daniel Day Lewis!

In Hollywood Harvey Weinstein and Salma Hayek honored their friend, the Oscar-nominated Penelope Cruz (for Vicky Cristina Barcelona) at an all-movie star party in Salma’s white wood, jewel of a little house in Bel Air. Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, who she once played in a film where she should have won the Oscar, hang Salma’s walls with paintings. Her windows overlook L.A. The decor is stunning, contemporary and tastefully bright. The hostess received in a black cocktail dress wearing five-inch heels and carrying her baby, Valentina, in her arms. Some guests? Colin Farrell, Brett Ratner, Josh Groban, Prince, Scarlett Johansson, Ryan Reynolds, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Charlize Theron, Stuart Townsend, Quincy Jones, Drew Barrymore, Penny Marshall, Bob Balaban, Adrien Brody, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones who say they’re moving back East.

Penelope Cruz was left blistered and bruised after performing a sexy dance.

The actress was forced to push through the pain while doing a rope routine for new musical film Nine – because she was worried she would lose her grip and fall.

She said: “When something like that happens, you just have to keep going and forget about any physical pain. I was dancing in the dark with one spotlight on me, so I had to be extremely alert and focused.

“There were other things to think about, so I was not in pain while dancing – I was just praying not to fall!”

Pe is nominated in the BAFTA longlist twice for leading actress for Elegy and supporting for Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Furthermore Vicky is up for original screenplay, Hall & Johansson for leading actress, Bardem for leading actor.

The BAFTA longlists include 15 contenders in each category, from which the five nominees will be chosen in the second round of voting. Once the nominees are finalized, the whole membership votes again to decide the best film, four acting prizes and film not in the English language. In all remaining categories, the members of each chapter (or jury) determine the vote.

The awards will take place Feb. 8 at London’s Royal Opera House.
